Boiler House De-centralisation

The University had the summer recess to completely decentralise the district-heating scheme for the whole Peel Campus site. We were tasked with a £1.6 million project, with minimal lead-time to transform 6 major buildings to accommodate independent boiler houses, including all civil, electrical and control works.

Working very closely with consultants S.I. Sealy, and the client, we met both deadlines and budgets with minimal disruption to University operations. The project involved in house design and construction of a permanent steel framed insulated boiler house to strict noise criteria plus functional capacity, as well as pleasing architectural demands.

The work content included a significant prefabrication element executed at Carlton Works and shipped to site daily to avoid congestion with space at a premium. The swift supply fabricated elements, including large flow and return low loss headers helped to keep the very tight program on course, and all "heat on" deadlines were achieved
